Tip Calculator
Work out the tip, or split the bill (and the tip) between everyone at the table.
How tips are calculated
A tip is a percentage of the bill, same math as the Percentage Calculator's "% of a value" tab.
total = bill + tip
Example: an $80 bill with a 15% tip → tip is $12, total is $92.
Splitting the bill
Add the tip to the bill first, then divide the total evenly across everyone.
Example: $80 bill, 15% tip, 4 people → $92 total ÷ 4 = $23 each.
Examples
- Standard tip: a $50 dinner at 18% is a $9 tip, $59 total.
- Generous tip: a $30 bill at 25% is a $7.50 tip, $37.50 total.
- Group split: a $200 bill with 20% tip across 6 people is $40 each.
Frequently asked questions
Tipping norms vary a lot by country and situation — this tool doesn't recommend a percentage, it just does the math once you've decided on one.
The "Split the bill" tab assumes an even split of bill plus tip across everyone. If people ordered very differently, you'd need to divide individual items separately instead.
